Fraud Alert: Watch Those $4 off $20 CVS Coupons!

Okay, time for me to get on my soapbox.  I've really been troubled by some of the things that I'm seeing on blogs and facebook groups lately, regarding the reckless use of these $4 off $20 purchase CVS coupons that are being purchased at fraudulent websites.  So I contacted CVS Corporate to help us better understand what's legitimate and what's not.  If you are receiving this coupon from one of the legitimate CVS websites, or from CVS through your email, or at the Coupon Center in the store, it's valid.  However, do not purchase these on Ebay or other websites.  Below is the response that I received from CVS Corporate in regard to this subject:

Dear Patrick Amrine,

Thank you for contacting CVS/Pharmacy ExtraCare in regards to our free coupons offers.

I am sorry to hear that a website that is selling $4 off $20 purchase CVS coupons. There is not any offer like this currently. CVS is in no way associated with the fraudulent websites that are circulating the internet via spam email. These sites have not been authorized by CVS to use our name and we are working aggressively to identify their source and have them shut down. If you are in receipt of this spam email, to help protect your privacy you should avoid replying to it or forwarding it to other people.

The only legitimate CVS websites are at the following URLs:
www.cvs.com, www.cvscaremark.com and www.caremark.com.

Additionally, I have made note of your comments and in doing so contacted the appropriate individuals and made them aware of the same. Please know that your comments are very important as they help to improve the ExtraCare program.

To help you save even more, remember to scan your ExtraCare card at the Coupon Center in your local CVS/pharmacy BEFORE you shop to receive money-saving coupons, ExtraBucks, special offers, and for a summary of your send to card coupons. The Coupon Center also acts as a price checker.

Patrick, thanks again for bringing this to our attention. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us either by email or by calling
(800) 746-7287. We appreciate your patronage and look forward to serving you again.

Sincerely,

Barbara

So there you have it... unless it's coming directly from CVS, it's not legitimate and you're likely participating in coupon fraud.  Please use your best judgement, when acquiring coupons and evaluating the deals that you see online.  Happy couponing!

Patrick's Walgreens Trip - 1/27

With all of the excitement over my Kroger trip Sunday morning, I missed getting my Walgreens trip posted!  This stop at the Wag was outstanding, costing me just $2.81 after coupons and rewards.  It also demonstrates how you can roll your Register Rewards, by breaking up transactions and alternating purchases.  An example of this is the Pur-Absorb, which I purchased in Transactions #1 & #3.  The reason for doing this is that you cannot typically use a Register Reward to purchase the same item that you earned that Register Reward on and still receive another Register Reward.  Also, sometimes you have to consider finding a "filler" or an inexpensive item that doesn't have coupon, so you can use your Register Reward(s) to lower your OOP.  Check out Walgreens 101 for more on how Register Rewards work at Walgreens.

NOTE: Many blogs are suggesting that it's okay to use the $5/1 K-Y Premium Product Coupon from the 1/6 SmartSource insert, however it's my personal opinion that this is an incorrect use of this coupon.  The coupon clearly states which products it can be used on, of which the Ultra Gel is not one of them.  I recommend sticking with the $2/1 K-Y Product Coupon, which still makes an excellent moneymaker.

Patrick's Rite Aid Trip - 1/26

Saturday afternoon I found myself wanting to get over to my Rite Aid, since I was around $20 away from the $20 50th Anniversary +UP Reward.  Oddly enough, I'm already over 200 Wellness Points for the month of January, but I've been very selective about shopping RA and hadn't worried to much about buying things just to get the 50th Anniversary +UP's.

So my store had a local BOGO FREE deal on Tugaboos Diapers (part of the 50th Ann. +UP's) which was an awesome deal when you add in the Endorse and weekly +UP Rewards.  I did them separately and avoided using any +UP Rewards to reduce my OOP, as Endorse takes the net cost after coupons and rewards.

Patricks Walgreens Trip - 1/26

I stopped by my Walgreens Saturday afternoon to take advantage of a couple "crossover deals", or deals that take part of the sale ending on Saturday and part of the sale starting on Sunday.  Those who shop Walgreens frequently are probably aware that although they advertise their sale week as starting on Sunday, the Walgreens system actually switches to the new sales prices on Saturday each week.  This does NOT apply to Register Rewards, which start on Sunday with the advertised start of the sale.  So here's what I did:

Ending on Saturday 1/26, was this sale on Pepsi and Frito Lay products.  Notice that the chips are $1.99.

Starting on Sunday 1/27, was this sale for the same Pepsi and Frito Lay products.  But remember... the sales actually start on Saturday, so here's what happened.

The Walgreens system actually takes the best of either deal and, in the case of the chips, you end up with Buy 1, Get 1 FREE at $1.99, an amazing stock-up price for these products!  (Thank you For The Mommas!)

Wait!!!  It get's better!  Notice that both deals offer 3,000 Balance Rewards Points when you purchase $15 in Pepsi or Frito Lay products.  You guessed it... you would have gotten BOTH offers for a total of 6,000 Balance Rewards Points!  We'll try to keep an eye out for these deals in the coming weeks.

By the way, the Chex Mix deal was a little different.  The Chex Mix went on sale for $0.99/bag on Sunday 1/27 (again starting on Saturday) and there was a $1.00/2 Chex Mix coupon in the January Savings Book that was good through Saturday.  I stacked the coupon above with two of the $0.50/1 Chex Mix printables and received both bags for FREE!  (Thank you Rose at CIA Coupon Spy!)

So keep an eye out for the "crossover deals" each Saturday!

Patrick's Kroger Trip - 1/27/13

I finally took the time to get to my Kroger this weekend, with a a quick stop late Saturday night (I had the DiGiorno e-Coupon and Colgate coupons expiring) and little longer stop Sunday morning.  I was hoping to have a little larger trip, but my store was out of several Mega Event items.  Check out the very bottom of this post, where I have shown a catalina paper that says I have been selected to participate in Jell-O Rewards Program.  I had forgotten about this until I received the extra $1.00 catalina on my last transaction.  The Jell-O purchases track on my Kroger card and accumulate for this reward.

Money Saving Tip: Check the Back of Your Receipt!

During the week, I eat lunch at fast food restaurants most days on my lunch hour.  For a while now, I've been cutting my lunch bills by simply flipping my receipt over and taking a short online survey about my restaurant experience.  It really only takes a couple of minutes to do.  Here are some of the deals that I found on the back of my receipts this week:

Arby's - FREE Classic Roast Beef or Beef 'n Cheddar Sandwich

Burger King - FREE Whopper or Original Chicken Sandwich wyb a drink and fries

Subway - FREE Cookie

Wendy's - $2 off any large sandwich or full-size salad

There are a number of other ways to save at these places!  I also use Plink, a program where you earn points for dining and shopping, that can be redeemed for gift cards.  NOTE: You must register a credit card (for your purchases to track), which may not be for some people, but I use a card that's separate from my bank accounts.  In a little over three months, I've earned $25 in Walmart Gift Cards from this program!

And lastly, if you use Endorse, a great new mobile app, make sure you keep an eye out for 10% off any brand Fast Food (up to $2.00)!  Just another way to save a little off your weekly expenses!

I stopped by CVS tonight to grab a few of my favorite deals from my matchups from this week's sale.  The Dr. Pepper is distributed by Coca-Cola in my area, so it's included in the 4/$10 sale and $10 CVS Cash Card deal, which makes for an excellent stock-up price!  Another pleasant surprise was the clearanced Speed Stick, which after coupon and Ibotta offer made it a moneymaker.  Check it out!
